Our clients, Jerry and Dianne, are grandparents who moved to Wisconsin to be closer to their grandchildren. After hearing about us from a neighborhood mailing, they called and asked us to help update the bathroom in their 20-year-old duplex condominium in the Meadowbrook neighborhood in Waunakee, Wisconsin. Their goal was to create a new design perfect for aging in place. They wanted the bathroom remodel to remove the jetted tub and replace it with a large walk-in shower. They also asked us to fit a new double vanity into the space to replace the cramped single vanity.

Opening Up The Space to Create Better Flow

To add additional space in order to fit the larger walk-in shower, we had to remove an existing wall and pocket door that was used to divide the vanity and tub area from the shower and toilet area. Once we removed the wall, we determined that the shower space could be significantly larger. This also left plenty of room to fit in the toilet, double vanity, and lots of linen storage in the tall custom Amish cabinetry, handcrafted in Wisconsin.

Creating a New Entrance

We next needed to address the entrance into the bathroom. The bedroom suite originally had a pair of closets flanking a hallway leading to the bathroom. The old hinged door would be in the way of the vanity. Our solution was to add a pair of oversized double doors that offer a wide opening to the closet, essentially becoming a walk-through into the bathroom. Premium Panasonic vent fans ensure that any humidity from the bathroom will not impact the clothing hanging in the closets. The opaque glass doors are the perfect entrance to the bathroom. They offer privacy, are a focal point in the Master, and allow light from the large bedroom windows into the closet area.

A Luxurious, Functional, and Balanced Bathroom Design

The combination of rich custom wood cabinetry, oil-rubbed bronze hardware, and Adura Flex LVT floor tile in Corinthia Amber gives the space a warm and inviting vibe. Features like grab bars, a handheld shower, and a built-in corner seat offer safety and comfort for aging in place. For maximum accessibility, the glass shower enclosure features a frameless sliding shower door offering flexibility for someone using a walker to safely enter the shower.

Our Clients Enjoy The New Bathroom

The result is a beautiful shower safe for Jerry and Dianne to continue living in their home as they age. The safety and aging-in-place features are attractive in every way, perfect for hanging towels or washcloths, making the home an attractive option to future homeowners of any age! Their home is now more comfortable, attractive, and safe all thanks to this beautiful bathroom remodel.
