Our clients Anders and Lauren are a professional millennial couple with a flare for interior design. We recently completed a kitchen redesign on their eclectic modern home nestled between Oregon and McFarland, Wisconsin. The homeowner's goal was to create light and flow in the space. They wanted us to find creative solutions to do as much as possible with their budget.

It's The Little Details That Matter In A Kitchen Redesign

The ultimate goal was to find creative solutions to do as much as possible with their remodeling budget. We started our kitchen redesign by addressing the little things like updating the cabinet hardware and fixing the door and drawer alignment. Our solution? Keeping the existing cabinets and painting them, replacing the countertops, installing new hardware, a new backsplash, new plumbing fixtures, and strategically adding additional cabinetry.

Creating Light and Flow

Our client's existing maple cabinets and dark countertops did not make for a light-filled kitchen. The solution for giving them light and flow in the space involved painting the existing cabinetry Sherwin Williams Repose Gray. This made them much easier on the eyes. We also replaced the old, dark countertop with a brighter Linnstone Quartz Mt Blanc countertop. The original natural stone backsplash was updated with a classic subway tile backsplash in Astonishing White. The cabinet hardware was updated with modern, matte black bar pulls for visual contrast.

Adding New Cabinetry into Our Kitchen Redesign

With a little leftover in the budget, we strategically added some new cabinetry. We started by adding new cabinets on the left and right of the sink that went to the ceiling. Next, we replaced the cabinet holding the microwave with new cabinetry that lifted the microwave away from the range. Finally, the existing kitchen had a small cabinet retrofitted into a hole in the chimney left by an indoor BBQ grill. It was a single cabinet on the entire wall. The solution? We created a large, decorative storage cabinet. We mounted the new decorative storage cabinet to the wall. Cutting a hole in the back provided access to the existing cabinet.

This kitchen redesign results in Anders and Lauren's vision being complete! We successfully created additional light and an easier flow in the floorplan using simple, budget-friendly remodeling solutions.
