A 1990's Harmony Grove Home Gets a Modern Master Bathroom Renovation
A Modern Bathroom Renovation for this Harmony Grove Ranch
Our clients Joshua and Stephanie recently married and bought a charming 1990s ranch-style home in Harmony Grove, Wisconsin. The home featured recent renovations in most living areas, including the kitchen, dining room, and living room. However, the one room that was left in its original state and sorely needed an update was the en suite master bathroom. Joshua and Stephanie contacted us to take on their bathroom renovation. Their goal was to completely redesign, modernize, and update the space.
Let's look at our master bathroom renovation and how we delivered Joshua and Stephane their dream master bathroom!
Down to the Studs!
The couple's existing master bathroom was a perfect example of a typical 1990s design. It featured a built-in jacuzzi tub to the left of the entrance, a single vanity directly across from the doorway, and a small shower stall on the right rear wall. The room was relatively large, so there was a lot of open space. The single vanity light and exhaust fan/light combination made the space dark, dreary, and impractical.
To achieve the homeowner's goals, our first step was to rip everything out of the existing bathroom and start over with a nearly empty space. To minimize expenses, our design kept the toilet in the same place and the vanity on the same wall to avoid the extra plumbing expense. In place of the old vanity, we installed a custom Handcrafted Amish Cabinetry alder wood double sink vanity stained in Dark Knight. A Linnstone Quartz countertop in Punaluu brightened the space and provided a durable, easy-to-clean surface. The sleek Delta Waterfall Vanity Faucet in matte black added a contemporary touch, and matte black Amerock hardware completed the look.
To brighten up the space, we installed two vanity light fixtures, two recessed fixtures in the shower, and a new fan/light combination exhaust fixture that provided plenty of light.
Transforming the Shower
The shower was a crucial feature for the homeowners. They wanted a bigger shower to use some of the currently unoccupied floor space. We kept the existing wall where the shower was located, but we turned it 90 degrees to fill the entire right side of the bathroom. This allowed us to create a luxurious and spacious shower for Joshua and Stephanie.
After redesigning the space to accommodate the larger shower enclosure, our focus shifted to the aesthetics of the design. Taking the couple's budget and maintenance needs into account, we chose the Onyx shower system. With a custom 1.5-inch low-step shower pan and dual color wall panels, the new shower was beautiful, low maintenance, and perfect for this young couple. Joshua and Stephanie wanted two shower systems, one at either end and glass shower doors to keep the space open and light. To complete this design, we installed two Delta Ara collection shower systems in matte black and a Delta Ara collection handheld shower in matte black. The new shower is open, bright, and modern.
The Final Touches to this Bathroom Renovation
The new design, with its custom double vanity and expanded shower enclosure, offered the homeowners the modern style they sought. Regarding the room's color palette, Joshua and Stephanie desired a sleek, modern, monochromatic black-and-white palette. To offset the dark stained vanity and dark shower enclosure panels, we painted the walls in Sherwin Williams Snowbound. It's white with gray undertones that really tie the whole design together.
This complete bathroom renovation and redesign results in a spatial transformation that completely utilizes all the available space. It transforms the room from dark and dreary to bright, highly functional, and impressive—perfect for this young couple to use and enjoy for many years to come!
