Our clients have a fantastic lot that they love. They asked us for an addition that included a three-season porch, a deck, and a patio with a fire pit. They wanted a connection from the inside of the house to their backyard. We accomplished their remodeling goals by placing a large deck above the 3-season porch. There is a new patio door that connects the main level of the home to the new deck. It also has a stairway to the patio and backyard. The 3-season room is placed on the lower level looking out upon the patio and fire pit. By adding a deck, three-season room, patio, and front porch, the newly designed, livable square footage of their home increased by nearly 50%!

Easily Accessible Indoor and Outdoor Living

The rear of the home had a basic concrete back patio with a wood retaining wall. While usable, the clients wanted beauty and to extend the outdoor living season. An added benefit is being able to store their outdoor furniture somewhere in the off-season. In nearly the same footprint, we designed a 3-Season room on the ground level, connecting to the walk-out basement, with a composite deck above. To access the deck, we removed a window from the living room and replaced it with a full glass sliding door. New stairs were installed from the deck down to grade, leading out to the new stamped concrete patio. We paid particular attention to the stairs in the design, to allow as much light and ventilation as possible into the 3-Season Room. The stamped and stained patio includes a fire pit with a seating wall. View images of the front porch.

Three Season Room Addition

The 3-season room is placed on the lower level looking out upon the patio and fire pit. By adding a deck, 3-season room, patio, and front porch, the newly designed, livable square footage of their home increased by nearly 50%! The stamped and stained concrete patio includes a large fire pit with a seating wall. The porch gets considerable light through the Styleline Riviera 4-panel windows.

Fire Pit Construction

Two patterns of stamped concrete were used in order to design a texture that outlines two different spaces. This design element results in a fire pit area that feels distinct from the rest of the patio. This technique was used to avoid any steps and make the patio appear separate but still integrated.

We knew we were hiring a premiere Madison-area builder to ensure a quality product. We are happy with the quality of design and workmanship. All of the new areas look like they should have always been there and add so much beauty and value to our home! We knew Abe personally, but met his team because of this project. Every Degnan employee was professional, personable, and went out of their way to make our experience a good one. They are not just quality contractors, they are all-around good people!
