Our clients Jeff, and Dora, are a professional couple with kids in school. Our relationship started when they got in touch with us wanting to upgrade several builder-grade features to make their Middleton, Wisconsin home truly theirs.

Like any project involving multiple areas of the home, Jeff and Dora's scope of work expanded. As the design progressed, work was happening on all three levels of their home. On the main level, they wanted to spice up the interior design by upgrading the appearance of the builder's model fireplace and improving its functionality. Upstairs, the two-story open foyer was to be converted into a children's study between the bedrooms. Finally, they wanted to upgrade their lower-level family room into a chic family entertainment area and add a modern exercise room to a portion of the unfinished basement space.

The Interior Design For The Livingroom

The main level of the home featured a bland builder-grade fireplace. The best feature of the existing space was the pair of awning windows flanking the fireplace. The windows created a perfect space that was begging for built-ins. We created a balanced interior design that features storage on one side and a comfortable reading nook on the other. The new maple fireplace surround brings a sense of scale and luxury to the room. The white-painted shiplap above introduces just the right texture. The same white is used for the cabinetry on one side and the window seat on the other. We reintroduced the beautiful stained maple back into the design on the countertop and window seat surfaces. These features and the new paint color anchor this end of the living room, an example of inspired interior design!

The Finished Basement Interior Design

The downstairs family room may have been finished, but it was boring and beige. The space had the perfect wall for a monster TV and was begging for a design upgrade. Jeff and Dora specifically requested that we add plenty of cabinetry and storage. We delivered by filling the entire length of the fifteen-foot wall with cabinetry, including a beverage refrigerator and a long countertop. The floating shelves with embedded LED light strips anchor the left and right sides of the TV wall. The formerly dull family room has been transformed into a contemporary, casual space ideally suited for family entertainment. The modern workout room's design was completed with raw materials. Floor joists, ductwork, and electric lines in the ceiling are all painted black. It's a functional piece of interior design that is the perfect spot to enjoy a home workout and escape from the stress of the workday!

The Result Of This Home's Redesign?

The clients got the space they were looking for! Thanks to an inspired design, it's bright, cheerful, visually connected, and balanced with the rest of the home. The design includes the perfect amount of contrast, countertop, texture, and functionality. The upgraded fireplace has gravitas while creating comfort and informality. When you've got the location you want, a little bit of creativity and inspired interior design can make it the home you've always dreamed of!
