We’ve worked with Kevin and Nathan before. A few years ago, we created an award-winning basement for them. They recently invited us back to remodel their primary bathroom. They envisioned creating a luxurious, spa-like retreat with a warm, relaxing feel and enhanced functionality. Our design solution created an organic bathroom using elements that mimic nature. We incorporated Kevin and Nathan’s wish list to create a timeless bathroom design that beautifully complements the rest of their home.

Opening the Space

The original bathroom was dated and felt cramped. It featured a built-in jacuzzi tub under three windows, surrounded by tile and connected to the shower. This layout made the room feel cramped and didn’t align with the couple’s aesthetic. Additionally, the double swinging entry doors were impractical and took up valuable real estate. Kevin and Nathan both have an eye for design. Working with our design team, we created a primary bathroom that improved the flow of their space and reflected their design intent.

A Functional Redesign and a Sense of Style

Our design made some basic functional changes in the space. We replaced the swinging entry doors with a single sliding barn door. This gave us more usable wall space in the bathroom and freed up space in the adjacent bedroom. In the bathroom, the additional space allowed us to install tall Hallman Lindsey Subtle Shadow maple cabinets on either side of the vanities, increasing storage and countertop space. We also removed a wall and the pocket door that previously separated the water closet from the main bathroom. This allowed us to install the larger twin alder-wood Sunrise Custom floating vanities, extending along the entire length of the wall.

Natural Materials, A Soaking Tub, and a Steam Shower for a True Spa Experience

During the design process, it was important that we captured every detail in a way that made sense for the space. Every element has a purpose, whether functional or aesthetic. Upon entering the bathroom, you’ll first see the modern Ruvati Canali Freestanding white tub. The tub is sitting on a tile that appears to have a ripple effect. This adds to the visual aesthetic. The walls near the tub feature natural teak boards which extend up the wall and across the ceiling, creating a stunning visual focal point. Each feature and material has a purpose. The tile beneath the tub is like ripples in sand; the pebbles in the shower are like those you’d find in a stream; the tile on the large shower bench is like stone, and the natural teak wood features bring warmth and interest. Every visible element has a purpose.
