Our clients, Scott and Julie, are long-time residents of the Conservancy Place neighborhood. They built their first home not long after the neighborhood was established. Having moved into an empty ranch-style home in the neighborhood (a former Parade home built by a well-known Madison-area builder), they decided the 13-year-old home was ready for their personal stamp. They decided to remodel the kitchen, update the laundry, and renovate the master bathroom.

A Complete Bathroom Renovation

The existing master bathroom was serviceable and featured luxury features, such as a full-tile shower with touchpad controls. However, some fundamental design flaws made the bathroom feel small and cramped. The original bathroom was split into two spaces, the vanity room and the water closet, with the toilet and shower. The existing vanity room was cramped and had three doors that swung into the room: the closet door, bedroom door, and water closet door.

Starting Over

We started by taking the master bathroom down to a blank floor plan. This entailed removing the dividing wall between the vanity and the rest of the bathroom. Now open, we designed a more functional floor plan. The new vanity by Amish cabinetry, handcrafted in Wisconsin, stayed in roughly the same location; however, because we removed the wall, we were able to lengthen the vanity and place a linen cabinet at the end. The Cambrian Inverness Swansea quartz countertops are durable and tie the bathroom design to the kitchen, keeping the modern farmhouse aesthetic the couple loves.

A New Walk-in Shower

After removing the dividing wall, the bathroom suddenly got much longer. To reduce the feeling of length, we created a new tile shower. We added an interesting visual element with the Equipe Hanoi White, horizontally stacked in a 3 x 8 tile. We incorporated Maniscalo Chameleon hexagon mosaic tile in a warm sage green as an accent. To add an element of luxury, the Kohler Awaken rain shower head and the Ves handheld shower wand make every shower a relaxing experience!
