Anson and Brenda have lived in their Rio, WI, home for over 10 years. Our clients love the location and their home. However, they still wanted their dream rustic cabin in the woods. Instead of opting for a second home in the north woods, they chose to bring a rustic design into their existing home. Having recently remodeled the master bathroom in the rustic style, they asked us to use our design-build expertise to create their dream rustic kitchen and laundry room.

Reimagining The Kitchen

The existing kitchen was original to the home, and except for a custom tile mural backsplash that Anson and Brenda had installed, the kitchen had no rustic vibe. The standard U-shaped kitchen was cramped and not functional. After some discussion, we created a new kitchen layout which made the space much more functional and open. It was time to bring in our interior design team to add the unique and charming rustic elements the couple desired.

Rustic Interior Design Charm + Beautiful Aesthetics

Anson and Brenda had a vision for their custom cabinetry – reclaimed barnwood! They wanted proof of concept before we could proceed. Our Amish cabinet maker sourced some barnwood and produced beautiful samples, assuring Anson and Brenda that their vision could become a reality! To complement the custom reclaimed barnwood cabinetry, we chose a Premier Copper Products 33” hammered copper farmhouse sink. Along with the rich coffee-brown granite countertops with chiseled edges, the sink provides a stunning visual element. To continue with the rustic vibe, we also added Amish-built barnwood countertops. Oil-blackened steel cabinet pulls and a Moen Weymouth oil-rubbed bronze faucet add plenty of rugged rustic charm and visual depth. The Vaxel Sierra Rustic Pinecone mini pendants hanging over the island complete the look!

A Functional Laundry Room Was Part of the Design

Moving into the laundry room, we redesigned the space. Taking advantage of a closet under the stairs, we moved the washer and dryer into that space. This left us much more room for installing custom barnwood cabinetry and countertops to match those in the kitchen. We also continued the petrified wood tile floor in the laundry room. We chose a rugged black quartz sink for the space. The clients decided to reuse the existing kitchen faucet in the laundry room to keep the project on budget.

This Kitchen and Laundry Remodel Was The Next Step For Our Clients

With its new open and functional kitchen layout complete with rugged, rustic elements and its newly updated laundry room, Anson and Brenda’s home is one step closer to achieving their dream. Their classic rustic interior design kitchen is ready for entertaining, and the resulting transformation has Anson and Brenda set up to tackle whatever project is next!
