Our clients, Anson and Brenda, are a Gen X couple who love the outdoors. They have lived in Rio, Wisconsin, for over 10 years. They love their home in a rural subdivision and the surrounding property. However, they dreamt of living in a rustic cabin in the north woods. Instead of moving, they decided to bring the north woods to the home they love! Having recently completed a master remodel in the rustic style, they chose to work with us and use our design-build services to complete their dream home.

Opening the Space and Adding Storage

The existing kitchen was original to the home. It was cramped and inefficient. It did not use the large, open kitchen and dining room corridor effectively. The kitchen was relegated to the very end of the room, except for a spacious kitchen desk. It was a standard U-shaped kitchen, with the unique addition of an island in the middle of the U, which only tightened the space. Our rustic kitchen redesign opened the space. Before we began our kitchen remodel, Anson and Brenda wanted a proof of concept for their custom cabinetry. They desired to use reclaimed barnwood for a unique rustic kitchen design. Our Amish cabinet maker got to work. He sourced some barnwood and produced beautiful samples, assuring the couple's dream could become a reality!

Creating a New Rustic Kitchen Design

After a few design concepts, Anson and Brenda landed on their dream kitchen layout. The new rustic kitchen design layout kept some of the original kitchen's features. We made improvements to make the space more open and functional. The sink stayed in front of the large window with the view of their beautiful, wooded neighborhood. The considerable improvements centered around the refrigerator and pantry. We removed the desk and replaced it with the refrigerator. This also gave us additional space for an 18-inch-deep pantry cabinet. Once we had installed the beautiful barnwood cabinetry, we felt there was room in the design for another classic rustic kitchen feature, barnwood beams!

This Kitchen Remodel Was Just What Our Clients Wanted

A complete transformation in both space and style! Anson and Brenda are thrilled with their rustic kitchen design, laundry, and powder room, and are ready to entertain! Their home is another step closer to becoming their dream home!
