Amy Fishing

Amy Volkmann, MBA has been Office manager for Degnan Design-Build-Remodel since 2013. We asked her a few questions recently to get to know her better.

What are your hobbies? My hobbies include gardening, 4-wheeling, fishing and now I’m learning  photography. 

Where have you lived? I grew up in Wisconsin but have lived in Houston, Idaho, and Minnesota.

What about your family?  I am the oldest of five kids. My brother Tim is one year younger than me. My step sister Deb and step brothers Doug and Aaron are all younger; they live near Eau Claire, Wisconsin. I also have three other step siblings: one in Virginia, one in Appleton and the other in Texas. 

What’s your passion in life? My passion is traveling.  I've been to Europe, France, Italy, Germany, Canada, Washington DC, New York City, Manhattan, all of the southern States and most of the western states! I also love Colorado, Arkansas, Tennessee and  Alabama. I have even been to  the Bahamas, Mexico, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico and Antigua!

Do you have a dream life? My dream is to retire on an island in the Bahamas.

What are you proud of? I love teaching college at Lakeland University and I'm proud that I was awarded teacher of the year.

Did you go to college? I have a bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts (sociology with a double major in  psychology) and a Criminal Justice minor.  I also have a master's degree in Business Administration and did Masters work in tourism. I even started my Doctorate in Education but did not finish yet.

Do you have any favorite shows? For sure! My favorite TV shows are Blue Bloods, NYPD Blue, The Sopranos and most recently Queen of the South. I usually watch Netflix, Hulu. On live TV I like watching the voice and This Is Us.

What’s your favorite music? I mostly listen to country music.  Blake Shelton is my celebrity crush right now.  I have to admit, my favorite music in the past was definitely disco!  I also love Journey,  Fleetwood Mac, and Cher.

Do you enjoy sports or working out? I’m not a big fan of exercise, but if I must, my favorite exercise is anything using my TRX resistance bands. Golf is certainly my favorite sport and I play a league. I’m also SCUBA certified. 

What are the values that define you? I am a Republican with conservative values. I believe in God,  the Constitution, and I’m a member of the NRA. 

What’s your next challenge? I’ve taken up woodworking! All I have made so far as a door and a bench. I’m very proud of them and I can see that I have more to learn . I would like to do more.

We’re really proud of Amy’s work in the remodeling industry! Amy was awarded the 2020 NARI Madison Appreciation Award. This award recognizes her contribution to the Women in Construction group, demonstrating a strong commitment to the professional remodeling industry and promoting NARI’s mission, values, and Code of Ethics.
