What is NARI the National Association of the Remodeling Industry?
NARI is the National Association of the Remodeling Industry
As a design-build-remodeling firm at Degnan, we are constantly working on learning about new design techniques, new materials, and participating in our industry in various and exciting new ways. We do this by attending consumer and manufacturer focused home shows, participating in industry conferences, and also joining organizations that promote, protect, and advocate for the remodeling industry.
One organization that we are extremely proud to be affiliated with, as an active member, is The National Association of the Remodeling Industry. NARI is a medium for business development as well as a platform for advocacy and the principal source for industry intelligence.
NARI works hard to connect homeowners with their professional members as well as providing them with tips and tricks so that consumers can get the maximum benefits and have a positive experience when working with a professional, qualified, design-build-remodeler.
NARI membership consists of leaders in the remodeling industry, and its members are committed to integrity, high standards, professional education, ethics, and market recognition. Read on to learn a little more about this exceptional organization's history and how they can help you choose the best remodeling professionals for your residential or commercial project.
The History of The National Association of the Remodeling Industry
Today, NARI's core purpose is to advance and promote the remodeling industry's professionalism, product, and vital public purpose, but its roots go back to the Roosevelt administration!
In 1935, President Roosevelt's National Recovery Act established the beginnings of The North East Roofing, Siding, and Insulation Contractors Association or NERISCA, one of the first building industry organizations in the United States. This organization helped the US emerge stronger from the economic depression of the 1930s and established the foundation of a growing industry.
Fast forward twenty years to 1956. President Eisenhower established Operation Home Improvement, which began a nationwide effort that emphasized the rehabilitation of existing housing as opposed to new construction. From this effort, the National Home Improvement Council, or NHIC, was born.
By the mid-1960s, NERISCA was no longer reflecting the membership of the growing industry, and as a result, its name was changed to the National Remodelers Association (NRA).
In 1982, the NRA and NHIC joined together, and the National Association of the Remodeling Industry was born. Today, NARI has 44 chapters across the country and has members in 49 states. In 2000, NARI moved its national headquarters from Alexandria, Virginia, to Des Plaines, Illinois. In the winter of 2020, the headquarters moved to its new home in Wheeling, IL.
NARI Madison
We are members of NARI's Madison chapter. The Madison chapter represents more than 300 companies and 1500 remodeling professionals in Wisconsin who pledge to observe the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and responsibility.
For consumers, NARI is there to help you choose the best remodeling professionals for your residential or commercial remodeling project. Remodeling firms can vary widely, and NARI can help you to select your contractor with care. When you hire a NARI member company, you can be sure that your remodeler will adhere to our core values and code of ethics.
NARI's mission is to be the primary remodeling resource for both industry professionals and consumers alike. Their goal is to elevate the professionalism of our industry by expanding knowledge, building relationships, and offering recognition of industry excellence.
